How a 98" large screen for retail transforms point-of-sale engagement.
In modern retail environments, especially within the clothing and apparel sector, digital displays have become essential tools for customer engagement. The space behind the point-of-sale (POS) desk is one of the most valuable advertising locations in-store. While customers are stationary - waiting to pay, browse add-on items, or simply taking in the surroundings - this area provides a prime opportunity to highlight promotions, tell brand stories, and showcase trending products. Large-format digital screens deliver the bold visual impact needed to capture attention, reinforce brand identity, and increase upsell potential.
When one of our clients, Weekend Offender, approached us during their store relocation, they asked a simple but important question:
“What is the best large screen option for our new POS area?”
Their shop-fit designer had initially specified a 2x2 video wall, but with evolving technology, multiple solutions were available - each with different advantages, visual impact, and budget considerations.
This case study outlines how we evaluated the options and why the 98 inch large screen for retail became the ideal choice.
Client Background
Weekend Offender, a Welsh clothing and apparel brand, was relocating and refurbishing their outlet store in Bridgend. As part of the redesign, they wanted the store’s digital elements to match their contemporary brand identity and enhance the customer experience.
The Challenge
Weekend Offender had a clear objective:
Install a large display behind the point-of-sale desk
Use the space to broadcast key messages, brand advertising, campaigns, and social content
Ensure the display was visually impactful, reliable, and easy to update
Stay within a realistic budget while improving store aesthetics
They initially assumed that a traditional 2x2 video wall would be the right solution - until we explored alternatives with them.
Our Approach
We presented Weekend Offender with three tailored options, explaining the benefits, drawbacks, and cost implications of each:
1. 2x2 Video Wall (4× 55" Displays)
A common choice in retail, this setup provides flexibility and a large combined screen area.
However:
The bezel lines between screens can interrupt visual content
Depth of the installation can be prohibitive, with more points of failure
Overall costs (hardware + installation + mounts) are often higher than expected
2. LED Wall Alternative
LED screens have become popular in flagship global retail stores thanks to their brightness and custom sizing. Modern LED with GOB protection makes them suitable for high-traffic areas.
But for Weekend Offender’s required dimensions of 2.5m × 1.5m, achieving a high-resolution finish appropriate for short viewing distances would have increased costs significantly. This made LED less suitable for this particular screen size and environment.
3. A 98 Inch Large Screen for Retail (4K Display)
Our third option - and the one that ultimately proved best - was a 98 inch large screen for retail.
This option offered:
A clean, bezel-free visual canvas
Exceptional 4K clarity
Lower cost compared to video walls and high-resolution LED
Easier installation and reduced maintenance
Strong impact directly above the POS desk
While a 98 inch unit is physically large and requires careful handling during installation, the space in, and access to the store was well-suited for it, the 98” large screen, provided the best mix of performance and value.
The Solution Implemented
Weekend Offender chose the 98 inch large screen for retail for their POS feature wall. The display now showcases:
Product highlights
Seasonal campaigns
Live social media content
Brand videos
Its presence delivers an immediate “wow factor,” reinforcing the brand's bold, urban identity.
To further enhance customer attraction, Weekend Offender also installed an Ultra High Bright Digital Window Display. This screen faces the pedestrian walkway, looping new product videos to draw shoppers into the store with an eye-catching, high-visibility display.
The Results
Stronger visual impact at the front of store
Increased potential for customer engagement at the POS area
Improved visibility for product ranges and promotions
The combination of a 98 inch large screen for retail and a high-bright window display has given their new location a more premium, connected, and digitally-enhanced shopping experience.
Conclusion
If you're considering a large digital display for your retail space, we can help you compare the options and find the perfect fit for your brand, budget, and goals.
