Creating a memorable first impression is becoming increasingly important for modern offices and corporate headquarters. For many businesses, the reception area is the first thing visitors, customers, and staff experience when entering the building - making it the perfect place to showcase brand identity, company culture, and products through a modern Reception Video Wall Display.
This was exactly the challenge faced by Citizen Watch when looking to modernise and elevate a smaller reception space within their head office.
A Small Reception Space with Big Expectations
The original concept sounded relatively simple.
Citizen Watch wanted to improve the appearance of their reception area using digital signage, creating something modern, engaging, and visually impactful for visitors entering the office.
Initially, the idea was to install a large 55" TV in landscape orientation on the main reception wall. While practical, the client felt the solution lacked impact and didn’t fully deliver the premium visual statement they were looking for.
The space needed something more impressive.Something with genuine wow factor. That’s when Windsor Displays were contacted to explore alternative ideas and recommend a more suitable
digital display solution.
Understanding the Space Properly
One of the most important stages of any digital signage project is understanding the physical environment properly before recommending hardware. As soon as we received wall measurements and photographs of the reception area, it became clear that the space itself would heavily influence the best solution.
The key observation was simple:the wall was naturally a portrait-oriented space.
This immediately raised concerns about using a traditional landscape screen. While a standard 55" display would technically fit, it wouldn’t maximise the available visual space or create the striking appearance the client wanted.
By understanding the proportions of the wall early in the process, we were able to explore a much wider range of creative display options.
Exploring Large Portrait Display Options
Our initial recommendation was to consider much larger commercial displays installed in portrait orientation.
Options such as:
86" commercial displays
…would create a far larger and more immersive digital canvas within the reception area.
Mounted vertically, these displays would:
better suit the proportions of the wall
create stronger visual impact
provide a modern architectural appearance
allow Citizen Watch to showcase products, branding, and company news in a much more captivating way
The concept worked perfectly on paper.
However, further investigation revealed another challenge.
The Installation Challenge
While the reception area itself was relatively compact, the building access route presented a major issue.
The wall was not located on the ground floor, meaning transporting and manoeuvring extremely large-format displays such as 86" or 98" screens through internal access routes became impractical.
This is one of the realities of commercial digital signage projects:sometimes the ideal screen solution simply cannot physically reach the installation location.
Rather than forcing an unsuitable solution, we revisited the brief and looked at alternative ways to achieve the same visual impact.
The Video Wall Solution
After reviewing the space again, we knew one obvious option would be an LED screen, as direct-view LED technology is made up of modular LED tiles or cabinets that connect seamlessly to create one large continuous display surface. However, to achieve good resolution across a relatively small screen requires high pixel pitch options. Unfortunately, this came in at a higher price tag than the budget allowed.
The answer became clear: a Reception Video Wall Display would deliver the scale, flexibility, resolution, and visual impact the client was looking for, while also solving the access limitations.
We proposed a portrait-format video wall using:
3 x 55" commercial video wall displays
mounted in landscape in a 1x3 landscape configuration
professionally aligned to create one seamless portrait digital canvas
This approach allowed the screens to fit perfectly within the available wall area while still delivering a large-format visual experience.
We also presented two bezel options:
3.5mm total bezel video wall displays
ultra-fine 0.88mm bezel displays
While the ultra-fine bezel option offered the most seamless appearance, budget considerations made the 3.5mm bezel solution the preferred choice for the project.
Creating the Content Experience
The display itself was only part of the solution.
To fully maximise the impact of the installation, content was specifically designed and formatted to suit the portrait video wall layout.
Using a dedicated 4K media player, content could be displayed seamlessly across all three screens as one unified visual experience.
This allowed Citizen Watch to:
showcase new products
display company messaging
share internal communications
create branded visual experiences
modernise the reception environment
all changeable in an instant.
The final result delivered exactly what the client originally wanted:a modern, engaging, premium digital feature that transformed the space far beyond what a standard TV installation could have achieved.
A Modern Reception Video Wall Display That Delivered Real Impact
The completed installation successfully transformed a relatively small and otherwise simple reception area into a striking modern digital environment. More importantly, the project demonstrated an important principle in commercial digital signage:the best solution is not always the most obvious one.
By carefully assessing:
wall proportions
viewing angles
access restrictions
content requirements
installation logistics
…we were able to create a far more effective and visually impressive outcome.
The finished Reception Video Wall Display now provides Citizen Watch with a flexible and modern communications platform that elevates the visitor experience while reinforcing the company’s premium brand identity from the moment people walk through the door.
